Our Mission
The mission of Park East High School is to equitably educate students of diverse cultural backgrounds and abilities to conduct research, solve complex problems, and clearly express ideas through discussion, writing, and presentation. Our vision is that graduates will actively engage as voters, jurors, and justice-minded participants in a democratic society.
Through intellectually challenging classes and our advisories, students develop agency, celebrate individual and social responsibility, and attain high personal and academic standards. Athletics, student-driven clubs, and school-wide traditions reflect our commitment to being an empathetic, inclusive, and fun-loving community, enabling students to pursue their aspirations for college and career.
Our community is guided by our core values, “Purpose, Preparation, and Pride,” which mirror and mold the mission of Park East High School.
Academic Focus
We are a screened, college preparatory high school that provides early college awareness through a structured Advisory beginning in the 9th grade. We offer all students an opportunity to participate in numerous electives across the academic disciplines, giving students much choice while completing their graduation requirements. All students can participate in Open Honors, which provides an innovative way to challenge our highest-performing students to push themselves, as well as an opportunity for students who might not be traditionally identified as honors students to opt in. Students can also begin taking Advanced Placement classes in 10th grade.

Annual Traditions: Honors Night, Welcome Week, Fall Festival, Thanksgiving Feast, Ice Skating Trip, Talent Show, Grade Level Socials and Trips, Field Day, Pep Rallies, and more.
Big Brother Big Sister Program: This youth mentoring association helps youth to overcome the many challenges they face and helps them build self-esteem and confidence. The students are matched with mentors
and participate in a myriad of career-centered activities.
College Access Research & Action (CARA): This partnership offers a seminar course on each grade level with a specific focus of “creating post-secondary pathways” for our students, starting in the 9th grade. College and Career inquiry lessons are offered as well as college visits and information sessions.
Modern States: Free online, self-paced college classes, enabling students to earn up to one year of college credit.
Students can choose from approximately 48 different college classes, from Analyzing Literature to Marketing.
Columbia University Double Discovery Center: This program works with low-income, first-generation youth to help ensure their college success. DDC leverages and coordinates university resources to provide students with a network of support including essay writing
East Harlem Tutorial Program: This after school program offers extracurricular activities such as competitive team Robotics and Advanced Coding to our students, in addition to support in the college process.
Icahn School of Medicine at Mt Sinai: Paid summer research opportunities, lab visits, and mentoring for careers in scientific research and medicine.
School of Cooperative Technical Education: Our seniors can take vocational courses during the school day such as automotive repair, culinary arts, welding, carpentry, electrical repair, plumbing, and solar technology.
Arts Partners: Studio Museum of Harlem, Young Audiences of NY (sculpture & photography)
