Park East Lateness Policy 2025-2026

It is important that students come to school and class on time each day in order to maximize learning and engagement while also eliminating any class disruptions that occur due to lateness.

All students should plan on arriving to school at least 10 minutes before their first class in order to pouch their phones and to be cleared for entry into our building.

Park East High School has the following start times:

  • 8:50 for students beginning 1st period (Monday through Friday)
  • 9:38 for students beginning 2nd period (Mon, Wed, Fri)
  • 9:34 for students beginning 2nd period (Tues & Thurs)

Students will receive lunch detention if the following occur:

  • They are more than 5 minutes late to their 1st period class (8:56 and after).
  • They are late to their 2nd period class by any amount of time.
  • They are late returning from lunch.

If a student is consistently late to 1st period, they will go on permanent lunch detention until they arrive on time every day for one straight week.

If a student is consistently late to any other period during the day, they will go on permanent lunch detention until they arrive on time for all classes for one straight week.

Additional Notes

Transportation delays occur daily and will not excuse student lateness, unless there are major delays, in which case school administration will determine if the lateness is excused or unexcused.

Failure to follow these policies will result in additional disciplinary consequences, including additional lunch detention, parent conference, loss of privileges to attend school trips or other  school wide community events, etc.
