Student Safety Procedures
Evacuation Drill: Building conditions are unsafe.
- Follow teachers' instructions to lead your class out of the building and towards the evacuation sites.
- DO NOT USE THE ELEVATOR.
- Students with mobility limitations use the fire safe room: Main Office/Mr. Edouard's office.
- Line up single file in the appropriate location marked on the map in the BRT folder.
- Make sure you are with your designated class for roll call.
Shelter In: Potential threat outside the building.
- ANY TIME A SHELTER IN IS ANNOUNCED, IT IS REAL. THERE ARE NO DRILLS FOR SHELTER IN.
- Conduct business as usual and continue with classes. However, no one can enter or exit the building.
- Anyone who is outside the building should relocate to one of the relocation sites listed in the soft lockdown protocols.
- Wait for the announcement, “The shelter in has been lifted.”
Soft and Hard Lockdown: Potential threat inside the building.
- IN THE EVENT OF A HARD LOCKDOWN, LOCK THE DOORS AND DO NOT OPEN THEM FOR ANYONE. THERE ARE NO DRILLS FOR HARD LOCKDOWN.
- During soft lockdown drills, make sure that you are away from the door, out of sight and quiet. Cell phones and other devices must be on silent.
- If you are in the hallway, report to the nearest room until drill is lifted.
- If you are in a bathroom, make sure that you are out of sight, inside of a stall, on top of toilet, feet not visible.
- Wait for the announcement, “The soft lockdown has been lifted.”
- Anyone who is outside the building must remain outside. In the case of a real emergency, students and staff can go to the following evacuation/relocation sites:
- Union Settlement: 237 E 104th street, between 2nd and 3rd Avenues -- safe harbor for anyone outside during an emergency
- Central Park East: 1573 Madison Ave, corner of 106th Street
- Co-op Tech: 321 E 96th street, between 1st and 2nd Avenues
- Manhattan Center for Science and Mathematics: 260 Pleasant Ave, east of 1st Avenue at 115th Street
